HowTo: Fortune & Cowsay
Posted: 2 Apr 2014, 20:59pm - Wednesday

fortune_cowsay

While working, I envy the terminal of my workmate, Roland Heymanns, showing a cow with quotes. So I install my own too. OS: Kali Linux (Debian) How to install:
root@mojo:~# apt-get install -y fortune cowsay
Then add the commands to your PATH
root@mojo:~# cd ~
root@mojo:~# nano .profile
or
root@mojo:~# cd ~
root@mojo:~# nano .bash_profile
Add the following to the end of the file (be sure its the right path for fortune and cowsay):
PATH=$PATH:/usr/games
export PATH
Save and exit. Next edit your .bashrc
root@mojo:~# cd ~
root@mojo:~# nano .bashrc
Add the the following lines to the end of the file...
fortune | cowsay -d
or if you don't want to set the PATH, simply edit your .bashrc and at the end of the file, add this line:
/usr/games/fortune | /usr/games/cowsay -d
That's it... log off and log in again. Open your terminal, you'll have your cow greetings. In case you get an error like you cant locate fortune or fortune-mod or cowsay (most likely you will encounter this if you install your OS offline), update your source.list.
root@mojo: ~# nano /etc/apt/source.list
then replace the source with the following:
## Regular repositories
deb http://http.kali.org/kali kali main non-free contrib
deb http://security.kali.org/kali-security kali/updates main contrib non-free
## Source repositories
deb-src http://http.kali.org/kali kali main non-free contrib
deb-src http://security.kali.org/kali-security kali/updates main contrib non-free
then do the update and upgrade...
apt-get clean
apt-get update
apt-get upgrade
I think that would solve the problem...

HowTo: Edel's Hamonada
Posted: 24 Dec 2012, 9:12am - Monday
More than decades, my Mother cooks the Hamonada for us (family) every Christmas and New Year. But this year, I'm not in the Philippines, I'm with my sister (and her husband) here in New Zealand. There's a big difference celebrating Christmas in NZ and somehow, Filipinos here in NZ always miss the way Filipino celebrate the Christmas back in the Philippines. This day, my sister and I are in our own to celebrate the Christmas and New Year and for us, its not complete that we do not have the hamonada. So I cook the hamonada and of course with the guidance of my mother. Here's the steps how to cook the Edel's Hamonada.edels_hamonada Ingredients:
  • 2 - 2.5 kg of Pork (preferably leg part)
  • 0.75 liter of Pineapple Juice
  • 2-3 large onions (either white or violet class of onions)
  • 2-3 garlic
  • 2 packs of Del Monte Tomato Sauce (200g)
  • 1-2 lemon grass
  Procedure:
  1. Put the 2 kilos pork at the casserole and level the water with the height of the meat. Place also the garlic, lemon grass and onions (assumed you already sliced the onions and crushed the garlic. Use only the half mention in the ingredients because you will be needing the rest later on except of the lemon grass). You can also add some pinch of pepper to add some spice.
  2. Ignite your stove, heat it with 75-150 degrees and wait until the pork will be soften, approximately 3-5 hours of heating.
  3. Once the pork was soften, remove the water and all the spices your placed few hours ago. Literally just the pork must remain in the medium;
  4. Then pour the Del Monte tomato sauce together with the remaining onions and garlic. Heat up at the same temperature in step 1 then stir it. Then while stirring, add the pineapple juice slowly, then 2 tablespoon of sugar, 3/4 to 1 tablespoon of salt, and add some pepper in it.
  5. Monitor the meat, be sure all the sides of the meat are evenly immerse in the sauce.
  6. Taste it also from time to time, if taste is still more on pineapple juice, add little salt or sugar nor both sugar and salt until the taste will be sweet and sour with a taste of pineapple.
  7. Approximately about 2-3 hours, when the sauce will be viscosity then the hamonada is cooked.
I think that's it... Serve the Edel's Hamonada every Christmas and New Year! Merry Christmas to all!  Cheers!

I got Computer Vision Syndrome (CVS)
Posted: 20 Feb 2011, 10:06am - Sunday
Few days ago, I suffer of super itchiness of my eyes for excessive staring at the computer screen, coding of tiger look style to avoid errors. I thought I will go blind. But reading some articles, computer didn't do something wrong with my eyes but the surrounding like lights and air. I will quote this for you;
Can A Computer Screen Damage My Eye? Twenty years ago, few offices workers used computers, let alone had computers. However with the dramatic increase in home and office computer use,  complaints of eye fatigue and discomfort are commonplace. Many people assume increased computer use is the source of these complaints. But extensive testing in government and private laboratories has not produced scientific evidence that computer monitors will harm your eyes. Research has established that computer monitors emit little or no hazardous radiation, such as x-ray, or non-ionizing radiation, such as ultraviolet rays. While computers have no known harmful effects on eyesight, computer users do often complain of eye related symptoms such as eyestrain, headaches, fatigue, dry eyes, and difficulty focusing, These symptoms (Computer Vision Syndrome - CVS) however are caused not by the computer screen itself but rather by the conditions surrounding the computer screen, such as poor lighting or improper placement of computer equipment and computer furniture. In some instances, a pre-existing eye problem may be the cause.
And more info about CVS;
Until recently I had a problem of itchiness, redness and irritation in my eyes. Normally i confronted with this problem whenever i went my home since i spend most of my time in front the television to watch my favorite movies and at the other times when i tried to read continuously or while using computer. Then I consulted an ophthalmologist for an eye examination and she said it is nothing but Dry eye syndrome. I really got stuck with these heavy wordings and by seeing my situation doctor said it causes due to excessive strain on eyes. When i start reading or using computer, it stretches sometimes more than 4 hrs. While concentrating on a screen or a book, the eye tends to blink less and this results in drying up of the tears which are the natural lubricant lining the eye’s surface. This may lead to the non production of tears in the eyes. Dry eye syndrome is also called Computer vision syndrome. What are the symptoms of Dry eye syndrome?
  • The major symptoms related with dry eye syndrome are:
  • Redness and irritation
  • Itchiness and pain in the eyes
  • Discharge and watery eyes
  • Feeling of tiredness in the eyes and strain on the vision
  • Blurring of vision
How can we get rid off the problem of dry eyes? Prevention is better than cure. So we can take few steps to prevent the situation like:
  • After working or reading for 20-30 minutes at a stretch, we should look away from the screen or page and consciously blink which will  lubricates the eye surface by allowing the resurfacing of the tear film.
  • We can read in good light and choose correct font size and colors with good contrast and visibility to minimize the eye strain
  • Avoid exposure to dust
  • Avoid direct blast from AC or fan
  • Place the laptop screen at a comfortable level
  • Avoid excessive exposure to dust and pollution
  • Washing eyes with tender coconut water (my natural home remedy for dry eye syndrome)
What is the treatment available for Dry eye syndrome or Computer vision Syndrome?
  • Better to consult an ophthalmologist rather than doing self treatment for an eye examination.
  • Sometimes there may be refractive error, due to incorrect spectacle number which could be adding to the eye strain, can be sorted out by wearing a correction glasses especially while working on the computer.
  • We can use lubricating eye drops.
  • The best treatment is to keep on blinking to get rid off dry eyes.

A Filipino diver discovered what is now described as the world's largest pearl in a giant Tridacna (mollusk) under the Palawan Sea in 1934. Known as the "Pearl of Lao-Tzu", the gem weighs 14 pounds and measures 9 1/2 inches long and 5 1/2 inches in diameter. As of May 1984, it was valued at US$42 million. It is believed to be 600 years old. "Pearl of Lao-Tzu" is the the world's largest pearl in a giant Tridacna (mollusk). It weighs 14 pounds and measures 9 1/2 inches long and 5 1/2 inches in diameter. It was reportedly collected by a Filipino pearl diver named Etem, on May 7, 1934, at Palawan Island, Philippines. At one time it belonged to Wilburn Dowell Cobb, who allegedly received it as a gift from a chieftan of Palawan after having saved the life of his son. On May 15, 1980, Cobb's heirs sold it at auction to Peter Hofman, a jeweler from Beverly Hills, California, for US $200,000. In 1966, it was valued at $3.5 million. According to te Guiness Book of Records, the San Francisco Gem Laboratory has valuated it at US $40-42 million. HowTo: Blueberry Cheesecake
Posted: 3 Apr 2009, 22:30pm - Friday
90__350x264_myblueberryI'm not into baking, cooking or something but I just learn this by watching my friends, Kyna Mori Flores and Cherry Oh, making this thing. Hehehe.. :) Because its yummy, so I tried to make one at home by my self. So far, I did it! Horay! :D Recipe:
  • 1 crushed graham pack (crust)
  • 1/4 cup of butter (crust)
  • 2 tease spoon of sugar (crust)
  • 2 all purpose cream
  • 2 knox gelatin
  • 1 blueberry can (you can use smackers brand)
  • 2 cream cheese
  • 1/4 cup of sugar
Procedure:
  1. Crust: Pour the crushed graham and the 2 tease spoon of sugar into the bowl and mixed it. While mixing, melt the butter also (you can use your Microwave). Then pour the melted butter into the bowl and mixed them together until the all properly mixed. :)
  2. Using the cheesecake pan, floor the crust into the pan and level it properly or evenly.
  3. Get a new big bowl for the cheesecake procedure. Put the 2 all purpose cream, 2 cream cheese, and 1/4 cup of sugar into the big bowl. Then mix it with a mixer.
  4. While mixing the step 3, get a cup and pour some water and warm it. Enough warm to melt the gelatin. Then pour the 2 knox gelatin into the cup and mix it well. Remember, mix it well. :P
  5. As the gelatin is ready, pour it into the big bowl with the cheesecake. Mix it properly as well. Be sure everything is mixed properly.
  6. Pour slowly the cheesecake from the bowl to the cheesecake pan (where the crust is already set). Then refrigerate it within 36 hours (enough to freeze the gelatin).
  7. After 36 hours, remove the cheesecake from the pan to a cheesecake tray then place the blueberries as toppings.
  8. Refrigerate it again about 8 hours. Then that's it... Yummy blueberry cheesecake is ready to serve.. :)

Guide to Migrate in New Zealand as Skilled Migrant
Posted: 26 Dec 2012, 3:19am - Wednesday
I am writing this Guide to help others how to migrate successfully in New Zealand. This guide was based from my experiences on applying in Immigration New Zealand.
  1. Check your skills or profession if its on demand in NZ like the following; Check your skills at the INZ website at http://www.immigration.govt.nz/migrant/stream/work/skilledmigrant/LinkAdministration/ToolboxLinks/essentialskills.htm?level=1
  2. If your skills are on demand, next is check your qualifications (where your study) if its exempt from the NZQA or New Zealand Qualifications Assessment. Check this INZ section at http://www.immigration.govt.nz/migrant/general/formsandfees/formsandguides/lorq/ --- in my case, I was in Xavier University and it was listed in the Qualification Exempt from Assessment. See your college/school/university if listed at http://www.immigration.govt.nz/opsmanual/45793.htm
  3. Your English proficiency is also required to be good enough. If you are listed in the exempt qualifications, ask for a certificate that the entire instructions of your study are in English. Or you can take an exam of IELTS to get an English Proficiency Certificate. Minimum passing of overall bandscore for IELTS is 6.5 for skilled-migrants.
  4. Test your points for Expression of Interest if it pass. Passing points is 100 points. So you should have more than 100 points. But I recommended to get over 120 points. Check your points at http://www.immigration.govt.nz/pointsindicator/
  5. If your test points are over 120 points, you should apply for the EOI (Expression of Interest). But before you apply for EOI, list down all your work experiences, educational attainment etc. Collect also all certificates from work experiences, qualifications etc.
  6. If all set, apply for EOI. Apply online at https://www.immigration.govt.nz/secure/default.htm -- be sure you have credit card or prepare a bank check/cheque for the INZ EOI fees. Or check the fees at http://www.immigration.govt.nz/migrant/general/formsandfees/officeandfeescalculator/LinkAdministration/ToolboxLinks/officeandfeescalculator.htm?level=1 -- in my case was I think its 480 NZ$.
  7. Now review your application 10 times or more. Just making sure its accurate. Note in your application, if your skills are in demand, get the ANZSCO number/title and demand level at http://www.immigration.govt.nz/migrant/general/generalinformation/anzsco
  8. Once its lodged, wait till you will be pull from the pool. Immigration New Zealand (INZ) will mail (snail mail) you if you will be invited to apply residency in NZ. In my case, I applied inside NZ, after 2 weeks I got a reply. But I guess if its outside NZ, it will probably take a little bit more longer. Especially in the Philippines that our courier post are corrupt and the service is the poorest among all courier post in the world.
  9. If you received the invitation to apply residency then Congratulations! The door of opportunity in NZ is open for you. Next you will need to lodge your application usually within 4 months. So since you collected already your certificates, the lacking will be the bank cheque and medical certificates.
  10. Ask for enquiry in your local New Zealand Immigration/Embassy what hospitals are valid or authorize for the general medical and X-ray certificate for INZ. Download the form at http://www.immigration.govt.nz/migrant/general/formsandfees/formsandguides/healthcharacter.htm -- you need to download the General Medical Certificate and Chest X-ray Certificate.
  11. Last certificate will be the NBI clearance certificate. To be sure, get also a Police Clearance certificate. You need to submit not more than 6 months old NBI/Police clearance certificates.
  12. Okay, its all set.. Lodge your application. I think the cost is 1810 NZ$. Please check the fees online at INZ website (#6) to be accurate.
  13. After few weeks, they will email you that they received your application. Assigning to Immigration Officer will take 16 weeks. Processing for the residency visa will take approximately 4-9 months.
I think that's all..Easy or what? Hehehe.. Good luck to your application and hope this will help a lot. Note:
  • If you do not have enough experience but you a got a high points like more than 130 points, they will give you OPEN work visa. Then probation of 6 months, after 6 months or within 6 months that you already got the job related to your skills, INZ will grant you residence visa. This note is based on my enquiries from friends in New Zealand.
Why migrate to New Zealand?
  1. Great benefits! Libre daw manganak sa hospital. So pwede ka birada pirme diba? hehehhe..
  2. Money Benefits for the children. Lamsam daw tawag, not sure. but sounds like lamsam.
  3. Study first, pay later diri ang University.
  4. Daghan paman.. wala palang ko kabalo.. hahahhaa..
Hopefully soon I will have my resident visa... Wish me luck.. I am still on the process on getting the PR visa.
